This is the day we gather in London for tomorrow our tour starts and we will visit the St Clements Danes Church and the Bomber Command Memorial.
Before that though, I have included some shots taken today around London. The city is buzzing with life and all the main shops are fully into their summer discounts. The size of the Department Stores is really something to behold. In Sydney you have David Jones and Myers but here in London, one of a number of stores would be larger than both the Sydney stores combined.
I visited Selfridges and John Lewis of Oxford Street but not the other 5 huge stores in Oxford Street alone. Also, downtown in Knightsbridge you have Harrods and that store takes up the whole block. In John Lewis of Oxford Street, it took me quite some time to find the computer section, on the 5th floor but when I arrived I was quickly asked by a shop assistant if I needed help. Quite a revelation as that service level seems to be lacking at home. Forgot to explain why I was there, my mouse for this computer must have been frightened by an English cat and had given up the ghost. My new English mouse is now learning to work with me.
Summer in London Certainly brings the people out into the open. I have included a couple of shots of just one of the Summer Festivals that seem to appear in many of the parks and squares in the city. The one I visited was in Portman Square near Wimpole Street.
I returned to our hotel at Heathrow following a couple of appointments in town to meet those of our group who had already arrived. We dined together for the first of many nights on tour.
